Glasgow Prestwick Airport is an international airport serving Glasgow, situated north of the town of Prestwick in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Although officially called Glasgow Prestwick Airport, because it is 29 miles from the city, it is often referred to as just Prestwick Airport. The airport began life around 1934, primarily used as a training airfield with a hangar. By the end of 1935 offices and control tower were in place and in 1938 passenger facilities were added. In 2006, Prestwick handled 2.3 million passengers.
